It can mine almost every block in the game in 1 hit, with the exception of a few blocks. Their problem is foundational: theyre supposed to be faster without bonuses but mining speed is too easily obtainable and effective for that to be an. It deals 15 pickaxe hits per second without any modifiers, and 20 with the Legendary modifier. Drills are supposed to be the faster option than pickaxes, but because they arent affected by mining speed, pickaxes become much faster with extremely easy-to-obtain mining speed increases. It is capable of mining every type of block except Lihzahrd Bricks. Accessories with a melee speed bonus will only affect the weapon swing, and will not affect mining hits (by affecting use speed not mining speed). The Shroomite Digging Claw is a Hardmode, post-Plantera pickaxe and axe. Even if that happened, pickaxes would still be considered better than drills because they can defend you while mining (and they arent as loud as a drill IRL). Pickaxes can use modifiers that increase speed, like Quick and Light. Sure, maybe drills should have knockback and should be as fast as pickaxes are, but they shouldnt be different. Its value shows the time per hit in 60ths of second. The use time attribute can safely be disregarded, because it reflects the weapon swing/animation and is not related to the hits for mining. Mining speed (also known as tool speed) is an invisible statistic that determines how fast the player can mine (or break walls, or chop down trees/cacti). When evaluating the practical efficiency of a pickaxe, two things should be taken into consideration: the amount of hits required (from high pickaxe power) as well as the ticks per hit from low mining speed – see the respective pages for more details. New players spawn with a Copper Pickaxe in Journey Mode with an Iron Pickaxe instead. Some of these Hardmode-tier pickaxes have drill counterparts, which as of 1.4 will mine faster than their pickaxe counterparts. They cannot remove background walls (this requires a hammer instead), nor cut down trees (which requires an axe or chainsaw). You dont need the drill / pickaxe anyways. Pickaxes are tools used to remove ("mine") blocks and furniture, normally converting them to item form. For other items which have pickaxe power, see drills.
